This is an outcome of a study done by Kotak institutional equities wherein they have found that E-reatailing companies are focusing on turning unit economics positive and customer retention rather than total merchandise value. The reason being limited availability of capital, leading companies focus more on cash generation by being customer oriented. Moreover, because government regulations have curtailed the discounts, so more discounts are to be taken care by brands itself.

Delivery Cost Optimization,Improved customer service and customer retention is main area of focus for E-retailers.Tier-i and Tier-II cities constitutes a large chunk of sales of E-Retailers.Hence remain a key focus area.

In E-Commerce now E-retailers are focusing on customers’ browsing behaviour, geo-location, purchase history, online advertising, customer satisfaction, cost optimisation, competitors,etc.

Now the E-commerce is focusing on E-retailers, so they get full control over the product quality and quantity i.e create "Monopoly" of the product.
For example:- Amazon has a monopoly of selling ONEplus smartphone, no other E-commerce portal can sell this product.
On the other side it reduce the cost of the product, advantage over competitors, etc,.

everybody used to say that e commerce retailers major focus in on profit by selling products in bulk quantity.But this paradigm is shifting now.
now the major focus in not on making profit infact profit took the back seat..now in place of profit :-attracting new customers,retaining existing customers,providing world class quality product,providing products at low cost ,timely delivery of products,providing maximum satisfaction,hearing to customers complaints,etc,.
last but not the least is optimal profit(profit which is sufficient for the company to survive).
these are becoming the focus of e retailers now a days.

E-commerce is now mainly focusing on E-retailers as it will help them to cover all the regions and a greater database of customers, by this they will have the monopoly in the market by combining with e-retailers and also the prices of the products are less.

E-retailers companies are focusing on turning unit economics positive and customer retention as opposed to the prior focus on gross merchandise value. Gross merchandise value is the total sales value of a goods sold through a marketplace.
