Re: The Dark Side of Information Technology
The technology is playing a vital role in transforming the companies by making them give up traditional ways of doing things to more of technology dependent. But it has its own pros and cons.Information Technology has definitely reduced the manpower as more work can be done with less man power. Humans are more dependent on technology and the creativity has reduced. We depend on technology for all our questions and their answers. Life without technology has become unimaginable and that is not a good sign. It has also affected our creativity in negative manner. Now we are trusting on IT more than ourselves. Now a days IT is also a reason for many crimes.
Basically it depends on person to person how he/she is using the technology.

Re: The Dark Side of Information Technology
Despite the fact that we cannot really ignore that there are a number of ways in which information technology negatively impacts us and our society, for the better part it has greatly helped to make out lives better. Technology has greatly helped us to become more efficient thus increasing our productivity. But Human beings these days are fully dependent on Information Technology which includes storing of each and everything from contacts to passwords. It is affecting the human brain as people are not able to remember anything. For everything one needs to look up to technology and always how it can make one's life easier. So, one should use technology but mostly which helps them and not affects them.

Re: The Dark Side of Information Technology
Information technology has long been viewed as the power behind a new economic revolution — an evolving set of tools that has made workers much more productive than ever before, powering a step change as dramatic as steam or electricity. According to a report by the World Economic Forum, “digitization boosted world economic output by nearly US$200 billion and created 6 million jobs in 2011.”1 On a company-by-company basis, a number of studies have found that companies that use more IT have higher productivity than their competitors.2 However, we may be entering an era in which human frailties begin to slow down progress from digital technologies. In a series of studies, we explored the implications of IT-induced technology stress, technology addiction and IT misuse in the workplace. (See “About the Research.”) One implication of our findings is that the very qualities that make IT useful — reliability, portability, user-friendliness and fast processing — may also be undermining employee productivity, innovation and well-being.

Re: The Dark Side of Information Technology
With the arrival of the information age, information technology becomes more widespread and integrated into more aspects of our life. In the enterprise, information technology has made significant changes on production design, management control, decision-making and organizational design. But as we know nothing in this world is purely good as everything has a dark side. like isolation, lack of social skills, lack of privacy, stress, lack of social boundaries, lack of empathy.

Re: The Dark Side of Information Technology
For instance, individuals might spend a considerable portion of their time dealing with interruptions from multi-tasking, because they work on multiple applications at the same time, which translates into significant monetary and psychological costs. However, we may be entering an era in which human frailties begin to slow down progress from digital technologies. In a series of studies, we explored the implications of IT-induced technology stress, technology addiction and IT misuse in the workplace.

Re: The Dark Side of Information Technology
Dark side of Information Technology is,IT changed the life of an individual. now people are dependent on technology more which made many problems like:-
lack of privacy- IT has reduced the privacy of an individual by providing most of the information on internet.
Reducing social boundaries- cyber stalking became common nowadays, and hence reducing the social boundaries.
IT have many advantages but have many disadvantages too, and cyber crimes are one of the most unhealthy disadvantage of all.

Re: The Dark Side of Information Technology
The Dark Side of IT:-
People can experience "technostress"for a number of reasons. They feel forced to multitask rapidly on simultaneous streams of information from different devices simply because information feeds come at them in real time; remote work and flextime can tether them round the clock to their devices and workplaces; and short technology cycles and pressures from IT vendors mean constantly changing interfaces, screens and functionalities. Ironically, even as they dream of escaping from IT, many people also confess to feeling "addicted"to some of these stress-causing technologies. Another aspect of the dark side of IT is the threat of people misusing organizational IT resources and triggering "attacks"of different kinds.

Re: The Dark Side of Information Technology
yes, it is very true to large extent that IT with lots of advantages also has a darker side or has some disadvantages. Today's world we are so addicted to technology that we can't live without it. Many works which earlier done my human being are now done with the help of technology so people are getting unemployed. Technology making people lazy as like in online shopping we can shop at home just by clicking whatever we need so there is no need to go outside. Focus power is getting reduced because of technology as now a days youth is always busy on social media sites they don't focus on their work. Thinking power is reducing as whatever we need to know we don't think we just google anything and everything we need, so people just stopped thinking in their own way.

Re: The Dark Side of Information Technology
Our world increasingly depends on elaborate networks: electric power grids, air traffic control, international finance, globally dispersed manufacturing and so forth. Unless these networks are highly resilient, their benefits could be outweighed by catastrophic (albeit rare) breakdowns — real-world analogues of what happened in 2008 to the financial system. Our cities would be paralyzed without electricity. Supermarket shelves would be empty within days if supply chains were disrupted. Air travel can spread a pandemic worldwide within days, causing the gravest havoc in the shambolic megacities of the developing world. And social media can spread panic and rumor and economic contagion literally at the speed of light.
To guard against the downsides of such an interconnected world plainly requires international collaboration. For instance, whether or not a pandemic gets global grip may hinge on how quickly a Vietnamese poultry farmer can report any strange sickness.

Re: The Dark Side of Information Technology
According to me, everything has its own advantages and disadvantages same is with Information Technology.
We always feel eager to know about the latest technology or the upcoming technology in the market with a intentions of development, but at the very same time we forget that these technology are making us more lazy, rather than making our life easy.
Some of the other darker side are as there is an increase in no of cyber crimes, various online cheats etc which are making people less trustworthy.
According to me everything has it own advantages but using it for a darker side make anything curse. So to IT...

Re: The Dark Side of Information Technology
Nowadays technology has become a very important aspect in the every field of life. Life without technology has become unimaginable . Even it has completely changed the working style in an organisation as compared to traditional ways. Usage of technology has reduces the human effort , processing of the data in less time and it has improved the connectivity among the organisation. Although it has various benefits of technology but at the same time its negative impacts can't be ignored like lack of human contact, various security issues, etc.

Re: The Dark Side of Information Technology
The dark side of technology is the increased number of scams and of course the complications social media has created. People get cyber bullied everyday and this has made people less trustworthy.
Some frauds that take place with use of Information Technology are not understood by most of the world population as hackers have come up with very innovative ideas of extracting your information and because of this many people suffer huge loss.

The new areas of exploration and disseminated new points of view on the
potentially negative impacts of IT use. The collective research and practice-related insights in five
areas that characterize the dark side of IT use, namely IT-usage-related stress, work overload, interruptions, addiction, and misuse. The clearly important areas to examine, given that the ubiquitous and functionally pervasive nature of IT use in organizations is expected to expose users to ever greater levels of conditions that are potent for experiencing this dark side.

Re: The Dark Side of Information Technology
As we know that Information Technology has helped in shaping both the business world and society but it doesn't means that it does not have any negative impact.Today Technology has replaced most of the positions which humans used to occupy like now Accounting is done by Software instead of Accountants ,Small business failed to afford for expensive Technology .It makes people less innovate and active.Hence every thing has both positive and negative impact so we should try to focus on the positive impacts.

Re: The Dark Side of Information Technology
Technology is killing human imagination!
Very correctly said, humans have created the technology. Every scientific invention and discovery is the imagination and creation of human mind. Technology should be used as a tool to develop and invent better techniques. Those who treat technology as a tool get a better help and living, rather than those who restrict themselves and get tied to the technology. While technology has allowed us some means of social connection that would have never been possible before, and has allowed us to maintain long-distance friendships that would have otherwise probably fallen by the wayside, the fact remains that it is causing ourselves to spread ourselves too thin, as well as slowly ruining the quality of social interaction that we all need as human beings.

Re: The Dark Side of Information Technology
Information technology has changed the way of doing business. People and firms heavily rely on technology to make life easy. It saves a lot of time and helps in managing things well. On the contrary, Information technology has its own drawbacks. People have turned out to be more lazy and lethargic. Over reliance on technology is a serious issue. We do not tend to remember things and this has challenged our imaginative capacities. Security breach is another issue which is lead by unauthorized access of data, applications or services. This addiction towards technology also leads to several health issues. Infact, in today's age of digitalization, we are driven by technology.

Re: The Dark Side of Information Technology
IT affects organisational and social life . IT systems into a company, tasks take less time and therefore, employees have more time throughout the day. Paperwork is processed and filed immediately, reports are generated with the touch of a button and financial statements are generated automatically. Companies are finding that they can combine jobs and need a smaller staff to operate fully.
